The Suburban Skating School provides nationally recognized Learn to Skate programming within our communities in a professional, inclusive and safe environment. Our passionate staff empowers individuals to pursue various avenues of skating and achieve their goals, be it in figure skating or ice hockey. Skating with us is a fun way to build confidence while finding health, happiness and opportunities on the ice.

LEARN TO SKATE CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

*prices reflect 6 week sessions

ANNUAL LTS USA MEMBERSHIP ($20.00):
This fee is mandatory and will be automatically included in your first session fee each season.

The Learn to Skate USA Season Runs July 1 through June 30

Ages 3-5:

Parent Tot ($125): Learn basic balance and skating skills with a parent or adult friend accompanying skater on the ice. Adults must be able to skate

Snowplow Sam 1 ($125): Learn basic balance and skating skills in a fun introductory class

Snowplow Sam 2-4 ($115): Skaters who have passed Snowplow Sam 1 or who have previously taken skating lessons. Develop preliminary coordination and strength

to maneuver on ice

Ages 6-11*:
Basic 1($115): Learn the basic fundamentals of skating to begin hockey, figure skating, and speed

Ages 6-11 continued*:

Basic 2-6 ($115): Skaters who have passed Basic 1 or Snowplow Sam 3. Classes cover the basic fundamental skating skills that will build on each level as the skater progresses

Ages 12-17:
Teen ($115): Skate with your friends while learning the fundamentals of skating

18 and Older:
Adult ($115): Classes are designed for the mature skater interested in learning how to skate and are geared towards the skater's ability

*An age override can be applied ONLY at the discretion of the Skating Director for 5-year-olds who have passed Snowplow Sam 4.

BRIDGE PROGRAMS

Pre-Free Skate - Free Skate 6 ($135): Classes build on previous skills, providing skaters a strong foundation of all elements. Instruction will focus on more advanced figure skating skills including jumps, spins, and edge work. Free Skate Class includes 60
minutes of instruction and does not include practice time.

ASPIRE Program ($160): Open to skaters who have passed Basic 5 and above and are ready to take the next steps in becoming a figure skater. Through the development of athleticism and artistry, skaters build a solid skill foundation that drives success on and off the ice. Program includes on-ice and off-ice training (50 minutes of instructional on-ice time plus a 30-minute off-ice class.

ASPIRE skaters are encouraged to enroll in their corresponding leveled class for 50% off.

Hockey Stride ($115): A skating skill program for beginners to explore their interest in hockey while learning edge control, stride efficiency, power, and agility. Open to skaters who have passed Learn to Skate USA Basic 2 or above. Classes are designed to develop skating skills necessary for hockey. Hockey gear is encouraged but not necessary.

CLASS DETAILS

Format: 30 minute class + 30 minute practice, once a week for 6 weeks (exceptions: Pre-Free Skate, Free Skate 1-6).

ASPIRE Format: 50 minute on-ice class + 30 minute off-ice class, once a week for 6 weeks.

Nametags: The nametag table will be located near the entrance. Please pick-up and return your nametag each week.

Colored Cones: During the designated class time, skaters
will meet at the colored cones located along the boards corresponding to the color on their nametag.

Practice Ice: Available for LTS students only. Parents and siblings are not allowed on the ice. Skaters must be able to skate on their own to utilize the monitored practice ice area. Aspire program does not include practice time.

Evaluations: Skaters will be evaluated the 2nd to last class. At the end of class they will be given an evaluation form with the instructor's recommendation. Aspire participants will advance through instruction recommendations but will not receive evaluations.

Parent Viewing: Parents must watch from the stands.

Practice Ice Rules: Available to Learn to Skate skaters only. No parents or siblings on the ice Skaters must be able to skate independently.

Badges: Badges for completing each level can be purchased at the front desk for $1.00.

What to wear: Dress warmly. Gloves or mittens are required. Snow pants are recommended for younger skaters. Helmets are strongly recommended for beginner skaters of all ages. Bicycle or hockey helmets are acceptable.

Make-Up Policy: Suburban Skating School Royal Oak will not offer make up classes. If you do miss a class, skaters are eligible for one Public Skate pass per session. Once a class is missed, you may reach out to the Skating Director, Jane Diegel and a pass will be issued. You will need to provide her with the actual date missed, to ensure your skater was not checked in. Passes are good for 1 month from the date issued, and you must reach out while the session is active. No passes will be issued before the skater has missed or after the session has ended.

REGISTRATION

Online Registration: Registration is available online through our website.

Current Student Registration: Current students can register for the next session after their evaluation on the second to last week of the session. This is recommended to secure their spot.

Open Registration: This is open to the public as well as skaters who were not enrolled in the previous session.

Skate Rental: Skate rental may be prepaid at the time of registration. Skates are also available for rental on a day-to-day basis. Skate Rental is non-refundable.
